Why is Florida fabulous for families?
There are many possibilities for a Florida family holiday. You will usually fly into either Miami or Orlando. If you arrive in Orlando you will land straight into the magical world of Walt Disney World Resorts and all the other theme parks in the area. Near Orlando are some wonderful beach resort options such as Clearwater and Sarasota. You can also easily travel to the Kennedy Space Center from Orlando.
If you choose to land in Miami, you can explore the south of the Sunshine State. Miami is an incredibly dynamic melting pot full of art, architecture and culture.
See the stretches of long white sandy beaches along the Atlantic coast and the seaside resorts of Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Palm Beach. Why not venture down to the Florida Keys, where the Gulf beaches are calmer and more tropical and of course take some time to visit the famous Everglades national park and its snappy inhabitants – the alligators!
Here are some of our favourite family activities in Florida outside the theme parks:
- Explore Wynwood, Miami’s art district, the whole family will love spotting all the street art.
- Swim with dolphins in the Florida Keys
- Pretend to be astronauts for a day at the Kennedy Space Center
- Take a pirate tour of the canals in Fort Lauderdale
- Visit Miami Children’s Museum or Golisano Children’s museum of Naples
- Ride an air boat in the Everglades and spot alligators
- Visit a sea turtle hospital in the Florida Keys
- Kayak, canoe or paddle around the Biscayne National Park
- Snorkel or scuba dive in the reefs of the Florida Keys

Frangipani's Top Tip
We would recommend to end your holiday with the theme parks – everyone will be more rested, will have adjusted to the time difference, and for most children, Orlando will be the highlight of the holidays, so best end on a high!
